Windows 7 professional tcp connection limit

Recently, all our computers were upgraded to Windows 7. One particular application that runs makes multiple tcp connections to a another application when the connection is made! Then application has to be closed and opened again and sometimes it still makes more than one connection. Any suggestion? This article is totally useless and doesn't give any good info on what most people are trying to figure out: the max limit of connections from other computers. All these numbers in the thousands are irrelevant.

Windows XP limits it to 10 , and Win7 to 20, and it seems some people don't like to admit they don't know how to do anything about it, or they confuse it with the half-open connection garbage. Duder you moron, you are replying to an article that was written 10 years ago, obviously its outdated and you're mentioning about Win7?

Duder obviously knows nothing about Windows or TCP. This article is still as relevant and useful as it ever was. Hello- I am really desperate as we built a chat application that uses websocket and stomp protocol, after about connections, users cannot connect anymore.

I believe it has to do with some limit set to the number of concurrent open to connections by the OS, but I am not sure how to increase this limit or to determine if this really is the cause.

We are running our application on Windows server, the app is written in Java and hosted in Tomcat. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Improve this answer. TheCleaner TheCleaner The Overflow Blog.

But is there some way to tell how many present concurrent connections there are? The upgrade will happen no matter what, it is just a matter of how urgent we will have to do it, if we are hammering against the 20 max ceiling constantly then its a question of rather today than tomorrow, but if we are slightly tapping the max 20 ceiling then we are still going to prioritize it, but won't have to do a rush job on it :.

But is there a reliable or semi-reliable way to tell how many concurrent present connections there are. It's a machine that alarm panels connect to regularly for polling ie to confirm they are still alive and sending at semi-regular intervals.

Its running Windows 7 Professional at the moment and the issue at hand presents itself when a technician calls in and wants to install a new alarm, then it never pops up in the receiving software unless we are lucky and they try at a time where all 20 are not used.

Ironically it has never been an issue before last week. Or at least that's when I heard about this the first time in regards to this particular issue. But is there any way to tell how many connections you have inbound? I would probably write up a small script just to count the number of active SMB sessions every 15 minutes, or hour and then do some logic on the logs over a couple of days. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

Windows 7 supports powershell but you might need to upgrade it. I think it has version 2 by default and version 5 is out now. I would upgrade powershell on it, there are tons of useful cmdlets that have been integrated since the 2. Otherwise checking compmgmt. My operating sytem is Windows 7 Professional. I tested my server with a TCP connection test software and i think my computer does not allow more than connections.

I tested my software for TCP clients and everytime my software or computer i don't know does not accept more than connections. What is the maximum number of connections for a PC not a server PC practically not theoretically. I am developing software on a Windows 7 PC but i will use the software on a Windows Server so i want to know if the problem is my operating system or my software.

The issue seems to be related to the number of ports that can be opened. The defaults are pretty less. Check this link to get steps on increasing them on windows.
